Man wanted on felony robbery charge now in jail

MASON CITY – Valentine Flores has been arrested after being wanted for weeks in connection with a robbery.

The Mason City police department sought the 22-year-old Flores for an alleged robbery they say took place on August 23 in northeast Mason City. Flores is accused of felony first degree robbery as well as two counts of interference with official acts and violating his parole.

Jailers tell NIT that Mason City police brought Flores to jail late Sunday night.  He is being held in the county jail on $41,000 bond.

Police did not describe the alleged robbery incident nor mention anything about the victim.

However, many locals have speculated Flores was involved with an altercation with a young man, William Whipple, on that early morning. Whipple suffered physical injuries that led to hospitalization in Mason City and then Iowa City.  He later died for undisclosed reasons.
