MASON CITY – Candidate for Mason City council Brett Foster Schoneman has a less-than-stellar attendance record at Mason City Airport Commission meetings, documents show.
Schoneman, who was appointed to the board by Mayor Eric Bookmeyer, has been absent 5 of the last 12 Airport Commission meetings. These absences are shown in commission meeting minutes, which list which board members show up. Schoneman, a realtor from Garner who moved to Mason City 5 years ago, did attend the August meeting, held just days before he declared his intention to run for city council.  Bookmeyer refused to answer questions about what he considers to be acceptable attendance at board meetings by his appointees.
NIT earlier reported that Schoneman was late paying his taxes numerous times over the past 5 years.  When questioned during a brief phone interview, Schoneman refused to address his tax situation nor answer questions about his plans for Mason City as a potential council member.
