MASON CITY – A Forest City man involved in a fatal crash outside Clear Lake this spring has been charged.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, at about 9:43 PM on May 16, deputies responded to 265th Street and Killdeer Avenue after a report of a collision. Deputies learned that a 2010 Harley Davidson was traveling eastbound on 265th Street when a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling southbound and pulled into the eastbound lanes of traffic, in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle then collided with the Grand Prix.
As a result of the crash, the male driver of the motorcycle – later identified as Todd Kephart, age 54 of Mason City – was injured and transported to Mercy Hospital. The female passenger – Margaret Bowe, age 63 of Mason City – was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Grand Prix – Timothy Thompson, age 17 of Forest City – was not injured.
On August 26, a charge of failure to yield upon entering a through highway was brought against Thompson. He will be due in court on Wednesday, September 2.
Iowa code states that since the accident was fatal Thompson could face a fine of one thousand dollars or a suspension of the his driver’s license or operating privileges for not more than one hundred eighty days, or both.
