NIACC women place second, men third at regional time trial

niacc_trojans_logoCOUNCIL BLUFFS – The NIACC women’s cross country team placed second at the NJCAA Region XI time trial Saturday on the Iowa Western campus.

Iowa Central won the initial meet of the season with 46 points and the Lady Trojans were second with 51 points. Iowa Western was third with 65 points.

Freshman Jessica Blumberg placed second to lead the Lady Trojans in a time of 21 minutes, 23 seconds on the 5-kilometer course on a hot and windy afternoon. Iowa Central’s Leanne Pompeani was the individual champion in 19:34.

NIACC’s Emerson Sears was fourth in 22:30, Kendra Schmidt was seventh in 23;02 and Alyssa Cowan was 10th in 23:20.

Also for the Lady Trojans, Taylor Glawe was 28th in 27:28, Jordan Lane was 32nd in 28:00 and Emma Phipps was 45th in 32:49.

The NIACC men placed third with 75 points. Iowa Western was the men’s team champion with 29 points and Iowa Central was second with 49 points.

Sophomore Imad Amenzou placed second in 17:10 to lead the Trojans. Iowa Western’s Sylvester Barus was the individual champion in 15:18.
NIACC’s Jacob Day was fourth in 17:17, Jose Aguilera was 18th in 18:07 and Tyler Randall was 20th in 18:14.

Also for the Trojans, Lucas White was 35th in 19:19, Nick Frenz was 37th in 19:30, Aaron Hardcastle was 38th in 19:31 and John Enright was 40th in 19:42.

NIACC returns to action Sept. 4 at the Augustana College Twilight Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D.. The women will run a 3-mile race and the men will run a 4-mile race.
