Op-ed: Marinos and Globe attack one of their “own” (by Peter Children)

You can tell you’re in North Iowa by the stench coming from Washington Avenue and the Globe’s editorial board. This is almost unprecedented; the Globe turning on one of their advertisers… rare.

A few years ago the Globe sent a reporter to Floyd, Iowa to write a review on a new restaurant that had opened. The reporter said they had terrific steaks. I thought, what the hell it might be true. So we piled into the car and drove there.

This meal was not the worst decision I ever made but it was close to the top. I wrote my own review, it went something like this: “The food tasted like it was prepared in a nursing home kitchen, the only identifying characteristics were an abundance of grizzle and fat. The potatoes were not thoroughly cooked and were left in a pan under a warming lamp to begin a rapid descent into hell. The fried cauliflower was cold in the middle and the house wine I ordered taste like gravel from the parking lot as it went down.”

The Globe just laughed, wouldn’t write the truth about how bad the food actually was. Not a chance in hell would they piss off someone who was spending $30.00 a month. Now, I have been told that Chop has a $700.00 credit sitting at the Globe… go figure their logic if you can.

I am not implying that if you spend money at the Globe you should become bullet-proof… but you should be at the very least entitled to the truth. The truth is never welcome at any party, and it sure as hell would be unrecognizable at 300 North Washington Ave. They long-ago dismissed it in favor of an agenda.

Jean Marinos: Fought the senior condos tooth and nail 'cute it might cost her a buck, but didn't hesitate to attack a "fellow" Greek.

On another note, Jean Marinos of the council claimed to be a member of the Greek Community; at best she might have a visitor’s pass. Being married to a Greek man won’t cut it, she is about to find that out. I thought she might have empathy for bartenders because that was what she was in Texas when she met her other husband… the one that died. She gives credence to that old adage; that 50 miles from home you can be whatever you want to be, including mayor. She had the option to abstain from the attack on Eleven and George Barlas, to recuse herself as she did with the senior condos behind Menard’s… but she decided it was more fitting to stick the knife in with the rest of Caesar’s council.
