City officials to hold public meeting on 19th Street SE extension

MASON CITY – A project planned in Mason City to extend 19th Street SE will be discussed at an “informal public information meeting” held at city hall later this week.

The City of Mason City will be holding an informal public information meeting highlighting the 19th Street SE Street and Utility Extension project scheduled to be under construction later this summer.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, July 9th from 5 to 7 p.m. in Conference Room A on the 2nd floor of City Hall.

There will be no formal presentation, so visitors may stop by anytime during that time period.

The overall plan calls for 19th Street SE to be extended and later link up with South Illinois Avenue, which would be extended south at a later time.

Some area residents are looking forward to the project, NIT is told, while others have serious reservations and say the extensions are not needed. The city says that to allow for growth in SE Mason City, the roads need to be extended.

This is nothing but a pay back to the builder and the realtor. I can’t count the times the taxpayers have been screwed by realtors. Look at the south end by the old Rose Bowel. A few years back we paved the roads and put in infastructure because that is where the realtors said the next expansion was going to be. All that has been build there are a couple of government buildings and we wasted our money. This SUCKS.

This is a B.S. project. It is not needed at all. The city is shrinking and we can not afford this special interest B.S. anymore.

Agreed and Illinois Ave. will ALWAYS be blocked by trains, just as Kentucky is!

Too much money and will only benefit a FEW. Many other better projects out there that would benefit ALL.

Not Needed! Let the people who live in Stone Pillar, who are the ones who want it, pay for it!!!

It’s about time this gets done. Hopefully it won’t take another 20 years to extend Illinois.

We’ve waited too long already. Let’s get it done and not talk talk talk about it.
