NODAWAY, IOWA – An investigation into a man’s death has led to first degree murder charges against two men brought back to Iowa from Kanasas.

At approximately 11:20 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2015, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Kathy Pafford at 703 4th Street in Nodaway, Iowa. Pafford advised her son, Allen Pafford, 44, was deceased. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded and located Mr. Pafford on the property. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to assist with the death investigation. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

On June 22, 2015, an autopsy was performed at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa, by Michele Catellier, MD, Associate State Medical Examiner. Mr. Pafford’s death has been ruled as a homicide.

On Friday June 26, 2015, Agents from the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) traveled to Hiawatha, Kansas, to interview witnesses and persons of interest in the Pafford’s homicide investigation.

Iowa DCI Agents, along with the assistance of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Hiawatha Kansas Police Department, arrested Jon Rubendall, 41, and James Bost, 39, both currently residing in Hiawatha, Kansas, for the 1st degree murder of Allen Pafford. A cash bond of $1,000,000.00 has been set for each defendant.

Documents show that authorities believe the two men came to Iowa along with another man and a woman to retrieve up to $3,000 in money owed to them for drugs. They bound, beat and shot Pafford before heading back to Kansas.
