Husband of slain Omaha police officer speaks out

K
Officer Kerrie Orozco

From the Omaha, Nebraska Police Department:

On May 20, 2015 the Omaha Police Department, the community and more importantly, the family of Officer Kerrie Orozco suffered a devastating loss.

Hector Orozco, Kerrie’s husband, was used to being the strength behind the officer. He never wanted to be in the public’s eye and being thrust into the public’s eye at such a painful time, has added to the difficulties that Hector is faced with. He is a proud man who has always valued his privacy.

Hector has reached out to us and asked us to print his open message to the public. Our department is a big family and the Orozco family remains a part of our family.

It is our pleasure to honor Hector’s request to let the public know how grateful he is.

From Hector Orozco:

I want to take this opportunity to express my thanks to everyone for all of their support during this very difficult time. Unfortunately saying thank you cannot fully express my gratitude. There are no words big enough to express that. I always knew how special Kerrie was and it provides me great comfort to know that Omaha, all the people who met Kerrie, the kids she supported, and the country, now know just how special Kerrie was. There is no way to really know just how many lives she has touched both while she was with us, and the lives that are still being affected by her now and in the future.

The compassion and generosity shown to my family and I has been overwhelming. Your love and support keeps my family strong and will keep Olivia proud of her mother as she grows up and learns more about her mom and how much Kerrie loved her and was looking forward to bringing her home.

Kerrie was very special and her loss has created a big void, but I know that she would be so proud of how the community has come together for her, for her family and for her law enforcement family. Her greatest legacy may be the efforts that continue throughout the country in her absence. Kerrie was very compassionate about bringing the community together and I hope that goodness can come out of our loss.

Again, thank you is not enough and there are just too many people to thank and send thank you letters to, but know that ,my family and I thank you for your compassion and support during this painful time.

With much love and gratitude,
Hector Orozco
