AMES – A teen will be charged as an adult for allegedly breaking into a house and nabbing a child.
According to Ames police, on Friday, May 22, 2015 at approximately 12:50 AM, officers responded to a report of an attempted child abduction at 111 McDonald Drive. According to family members at this address, a black male entered the house while the occupants were sleeping. The suspect forcefully pulled a minor child out of a basement window and struck the child in the face. A family member hearing the commotion chased the suspect to the front yard and retrieved the child as the suspect fled on foot. Officers later located the suspect in the 4300 block of Lincoln Swing. The suspect was identified as Akuk A. Akok, age 17 of Ames. Akok was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC) for a mental health evaluation. He was later transported to another medical facility for further mental health evaluation. The child victim sustained minor injuries during the attempted abduction and was transported to MGMC and later released.
Investigators filed an arrest warrant for Akok for Burglary 1st Degree, a class B Felony. Akok will be charged as an adult since the charge is a forcible felony. Akok will be taken into custody when he is released from the medical facility. Further follow up is being completed by investigators and further charges are pending.
