MASON CITY – Police were called to Monroe Avenue early Saturday after a witness reported a man attempting to break into a business.
According to Mason City police, on May 30 at about 1:34 AM, police were sent to Houck Pharmacy, 101 South Monroe Avenue, after a witness called to report a subject attempting to break in. When officers arrived, they stopped the male subject from fleeing the scene.
Upon investigation, officers discovered that the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Travis Lee Abbas of Mason City, had unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry to the business by forcing open the drive-through window.
Abbas was arrested and charged with third degree attempted burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. All are serious or simple misdemeanors. He is now being held in the county jail on $2,000 bond.
