MASON CITY – More houses are on the move in Mason City.

A house owned by landlord Russ Hardy was moved from the 100 block of North Connecticut to its new location at the corner of 7th Street SE and Massachusetts Avenue. That house was moved on May 20, and Mason City police helped provide traffic control as the single-family dwelling made it way thorough town that morning.  Several houses in the area of the Good Shepherd nursing home have been demolished (or moved) to make way for new senior-living condos/apartments that are set for construction.

Today, the city announced that two flood homes will be moved from their location on 7th Street NE (near the East Park sledding hill) to their new location at the 300 block of East State Street (near the police station). These houses will be moved on June 1 and June 2. The city said roads will be closed to accommodate the move.

Road closures and transit route detours will be in place in a portion of the NE area of the community during the move, city officials said Thursday. they said to plan for an alternate route if you normally travel in the area of North Carolina Avenue from 9th Street NE south to 4th Street NE, west on 4th Street NE to North Georgia Avenue and south on Georgia Avenue to East State Street where the homes will be relocated.

Community Benefit-Mason City is in charge of moving these two homes, which were damaged in the 2008 floods.  This organization is also in charge of moving the Egloff House from the same location, up to East State Street.  The house has been dismantled into two pieces due to its large size, to make the journey.  City officials say that structure will be moved in August.  It had previously been scheduled to move last fall, but unknown issues caused a delay.
