MASON CITY – The Summer Reading Program for adults at the Mason City library will begin Monday, June 8 and run through Saturday, July 18th, concurrent with the Teen and Children’s programs.

Patrons are invited to try something new and out of the ordinary this summer.  Free programs include a medicine show on June 13th, by the great Dr. Balthazar T. Archimedes, otherwise known as Richard Poole. Escape the ordinary as he demonstrates devices and elixirs from a 19th Century medicine show. This performance is funded through a grant from Humanities Iowa. Bring those valuable comic books for an appraisal with Mike Tickal, owner of Oak Leaf Collectibles, on June 20, 2015. Explore “Iowa’s Hidden Treasures” with IPTV host Dan Kaercher, on July 11, 2015. The former Midwest Living editor-in-chief has traveled to most of Iowa’s 99 counties and will introduce you to some extraordinary destinations. All programs are on Saturdays at 2pm in the Mason City Room of the library.

Register for weekly prizes including an “Escape the Ordinary” T-shirt, a $10 gift card to Java Works coffee shop in the Library Commons, or one of 6 Superhero DVDs. Win a $50 gas card by identifying unique Iowa landmarks in our “Iowa Off the Beaten Path” photo contest. Our Grand Prize is an “Escape the Ordinary Night on the Town” including a limo ride, a meal at the 1910 Grille and tickets for 2 to a NIACC Performing Arts program.

Register at the Main Desk of the library beginning June 8, 2015. For more information, call 641.421.3668, email librarian@mcpl.org or stop in to the library at 225 2nd St SE.
