MASON CITY – A Mason City man is in jail this weekend, serving time for his second drunk driving offense and violating his probation connected to a domestic assault conviction.
Just after midnight on January 25, 2015, a Cerro Gordo deputy conducted a traffic stop at Jefferson Avenue and State Street when he noticed the driver had an improper brake light. During the course of the ensuing investigation, the deputy determined that the driver, 33-year-old Jason Douglas Martin of Mason City, was intoxicated. He also had no insurance and no registration.
In April, Martin entered a guilty plea to first offense operating while intoxicated. (He had also been arrested and convicted of the same crime in 2001.) He received a two day jail sentence and was ordered to pay $1,875.50 in fines and court fees.
Martin was convicted of domestic abuse assault back in 2013 and placed on probation for two years. In April, he was found guilty of violating that probation and given a 30 day jail sentence.
