ANNAPOLIS, MD – Maryland Governor Larry Hogan today, at the request of Baltimore City, has signed an Executive Order declaring a state of emergency and activating the National Guard to address the growing violence and unrest in Baltimore City.

The governor, along with Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford and National Guard Adjutant General Linda Singh, will hold a press conference at the Maryland Emergency Management Agency this evening at 8:30 PM.

View the Executive Order here.

Governor Hogan is closely monitoring the situation in Baltimore City and has been in contact with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake office to provide the city with whatever resources are required.  The Maryland State Police have been dispatched in a supporting role on the ground, as well as other resources and equipment from various state agencies.

“Today’s looting and acts of violence in Baltimore will not be tolerated. In response, I have put the Maryland National Guard on alert so they can be in position to deploy rapidly as needed. I strongly condemn the actions of the offenders who are engaged in direct attacks against innocent civilians, businesses and law enforcement officers. There is a significant difference between protesting and violence and those committing these acts will be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the men and women in uniform who are actively working to stem this violence and several who been injured in the line of duty. These malicious attacks against law enforcement and local communities only betray the cause of peaceful citizens seeking answers and justice following the death of Freddie Gray.”

yes this is true but to riot every time a black is killed is really over doing it and is wrong. It also hurts the people that are out there making a living. I do agree with you a lot bodacious. Thanks for the good comments. I just think its wrong to riot.

bodacious,, just making a point. Explain what doesn’t make it right!! In todays world kids are being taught that everything is owed to you and when things don’t go your way blame others. No one wants to work because the government will give them food, housing and medical. Just think about it (bodacious)

fubar, I was just responding to your point that white men have been beaten by cops. Just because some police are equal opportunity thugs (not nearly all of them but some of them) doesn’t make beatings/killings ok. You trivialize this, and all other incidents, as kids are spoiled. Not all kids believe that any thing is owed to them and not all protesters are government-assisted citizens. The point is some police believe they have carte blanche to do as they please without repercussions.

That carte blanche thuggery is what is wrong here. And as I said before, not all police are like this just like not all kids are spoiled. Maybe if white people put up more of a fuss when, in the past, they were unjustly beaten or murdered by the police, this wouldn’t be happening now.

@bodacious-what you say is true. In Texas we called them cowboys. They are the ones who were bullied when they were young and now want to show the world they are tough guys. Unfortunately the few give the majority a bad name. does that sound familiar?

I’m tired of these thugs playing the race card. There are many black police officers, how do you think this kind of behavior makes them feel. There have been times that police have hurt white criminals also. But you don’t see us starting fires, looting, and acting like thugs. It’s sickening what has happened in Baltimore.

the cops have been beating white peoples for years and we don’t riot. Most of this shit has started since OBAMA took office. Now every black man that the cops assault they cry and start a riot. No killing is not a right for the cops and that must stop, but again whites have been beaten and killed by the lawdogs also.

That doesn’t make it right. You are living up to your acronym.

Watching the idiots loot and destroy it struck me funny that they left a trailler alone that had mowing and landscaping machinery in it. They had no clue what it was or what they could do with it !!! It never dawned on them they could steal that equipment and go to work !! Work ?? What for they already have free housing free food !! It made perfect sense they just left it alone almost scared of it like it may jump in there hands and force them to work… Hahahaha

Philly, if you hate America so much, why don’t you get the eff out.

What was his crime, looking cross eyed at the cops? @retread, whoops, excuse me God, did you really mean those words?

Freddie Grey should not have run away from law enforcement. His crime led to his grief and his ultimate demise.

The knuckledraggers in Baltimore should be shot on site the second they show the propensity to dislodge legal authority that is there to keep the peace.

Race don’t matter, didn’t matter, and has nothing to do with Freddie Grey or the rioters.

Going to be a long, hot, and violent summer. At least that’s the way it appears.

Despite the fact that Gray had numerous crimes charged to him, you don’t shoot him and say “he had to be doing something wrong”. This IS the United States. There have been numerous unwarranted shootings and beatings by police upon black males. This is wrong no matter how you spin it. Our culture needs to change. Rioting is not the answer to these acts but it certainly wakes up the country. Hopefully, we are starting to see that we do need to address the hidden racism in this country.

@bodacious-Just for the record, no one shot him. He somehow broke his neck (could have been running away) usually only people guilty of something run from police. They are still investigating how he broke it. The problem was they did not recognize it (or care) and he ended up dying from it. That is no excuse for destroying innocent business people’s business.

My mistake. The looters were hoodlums and opportunists. Nothing they did can be justified. That said, take a look at the link I posted and see how many choose to protest the right way.

@bodacious-Nothing wrong with legitimate protest, as long as it is done the right way.

@bodacious-They should not protest by hurting or disrupting the lives or livelihood of innocent people. When they do that makes them in the wrong and certainly takes away from the message.

Essentially LVS wants protesters to be rendered ineffective so he can laugh and gawk at them from across the street. The reason why this country is waking up, and the reason why entire police teams are resigning or getting kicked off the force is precisely because of the rioting. They should riot more…so much more that the institutions themselves are shut down. America never truly paid for her slavery policy. No time like the present.

Phili, take your anti American attitude and stick it. I’m tired of you putting down my country. My country that many soldiers have fought for. You do nothing but sit on your ass and bitch and cry because you weren’t accepted in the military. The military doesn’t want drug addict losers like you. You act like my country owes you something. For what? You’ve contributed nothing. If you don’t like my country, then leave!

You tell him anon.

@anonymous-Damn good comment. It is to bad he is to stupid to understand what you are saying.

America is finally paying the price for its abominable involvement in slavery. Eventually the karma has to be satisfied. There’s no other way for such a horrible sin to be remedied.

Bullshit.

People should stop thinking of themselves as “free”. They are not free. This is a complex world of bondage…economic, mental and physical slavery. Games are played on a daily basis.

Freddie Grey was a thug. The world is a better place with him gone!

@retread-I saw his arrest record this morning. The guy should have been in jail. No wonder he ran. He was guilty of something for sure. To have all those legitimate businesses and homes destroyed over that criminal is a damn shame. It has been the same story for everyone of these people they have destroyed cities over.
