MASON CITY – A North Iowa man has been charged with sexual assault in Mason City nearly a year after the alleged crime was committed.
Mason City police confirmed today that 30-year-old Mark Allan Johnson has been arrested and charged with third degree sexual abuse for a crime they say took place on May 30, 2014 against a female victim. They said the 10-month gap between the incident in question and the arrest and charge was due to a long investigation.
Johnson, who is a convicted car burglar, is also charged with interference causing injury. Johnson allegedly assaulted jail staff on Tuesday afternoon, and was cited for Interference with official acts resulting in injury.
He is being held on bond at the county jail at this time.
