Man charged with attempted murder after stabbing wife

bloody_knifeWATERLOO – A domestic dispute spiraled out of control as a man allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times.

On Monday, March 23, 2015 at about 8:07 PM, the Waterloo Police Department responded to 201 Allen Street on a report that a female was being assaulted by her husband who was armed with a knife and threatening to kill her.

Upon officer’s arrival the female, Angelia O’Connell, age 40, was located inside the apartment with multiple stab wounds and bleeding profusely. The suspect, Reuben A. Stigler, age 50, was also still inside the apartment.  According to records, Stigler thought his wife was cheating on him and kicked and stabbed her repeatedly.  He also struck her with a mallet as he tried to coax a confession out of her.

O’Connell was transported to Covenant Medical Center Emergency Department by Waterloo Fire Rescue and was taken to surgery shortly after for life threatening injuries. O’Connell survived the attack.

Reuben A. Stigler was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Willful Serious Injury, Going Armed with Intent, Assault Domestic Abuse Aggravated and False Imprisonment.  He is being held in the Black Hawk County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
