COUNCIL BLUFFS – The following offender has escaped from a residential work release facility. The offender was transferred to this facility after being granted a work release by the Iowa Board of Parole. Work Release is a minimum security setting which allows offenders an opportunity to gradually adjust to the transition between prison and the community.

NAME: Joseph Cias Smith, Jr.

AGE: 21

SEX: Male

FACILITY: Council Bluffs Work Release Facility

OFFENSE: Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury, Assault with Weapon, Assault Causing Serious Injury.

SENTENCE: 7 Years

COMMENTS: Smith was placed on escape status after failing to return to the facility from employment. Smith was revoked from parole and transferred to work release on March 12, 2015. This sentence began on March 28, 2015. Information as to Smith’s whereabouts should be reported to the Council Bluffs Police Department or Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Department.
