NIT – Has the government of the state of Indiana gone too far, or is what this red state is about to do an “it’s about time” moment that more states should follow?
The Republican-controlled Indiana House and Senate have sent a bill to GOP governor Mike Pence, which would allow business the “religious freedom” of not serving or doing business with people who identify as lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender (LGBT). Pence will sign the bill into law in a private ceremony Thursday.
According to a statement from Pence, he said the bill “is about respecting and reassuring Hoosiers that their religious freedoms are intact. I strongly support the legislation and applaud the members of the General Assembly for their work on this important issue.”
Several other states have similar law on the books, even as the U.S. Supreme Court is set to rule on gay marriage this year.
Meanwhile, Pence is about to declare a health emergency in his state after an HIV outbreak (attributed to intravenous drug use) that has “reached epidemic proportions.”
What do you think. Should business owners be able to choose who they serve, or should they be forced by the government to serve everyone, all the same?
