Former CIA Director Patreus enters guilty plea to giving highly classified secrets to his lover

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former CIA Director David Patreus has pleaded guilty in a case where he gave out top secret information about the United States to a woman he was having an affair with.

Petraeus is a retired American military officer and public official who served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from September 6, 2011 until his resignation on November 9, 2012.

Statement from the Justice Department on the Criminal Charges Against David Petraeus:

“Three documents – a criminal Information, a plea agreement, and a statement of facts – were filed Tuesday in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina’s Charlotte Division in the case of United States v. David Howell Petraeus.  The criminal Information charges the defendant with one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.  The plea agreement and corresponding statement of facts, both signed by the defendant, indicate that he will plead guilty to the one-count criminal Information.”
