Women’s basketball

What’s next: The No. 6 NIACC women’s basketball team (23-5 overall, 12-2 in the ICCAC) hosts Southwestern on Tuesday in the first round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in the NIACC gym.

Last time out: NIACC wrapped up its regular season with a 84-66 win over Southeastern on Saturday. Sierra Ford-Washington led the Lady Trojans with 26 points and Logan Anderson was next in line with 16 points.

NJCAA Region XI tournament: If NIACC tops Southwestern Tuesday, the Lady Trojans would host Southeastern or Iowa Lakes at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in the regional semifinals. The regional final is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Among the nation’s best: NIACC averages 83.7 points per game, which ranks third among NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans rank third in NJCAA Division II with 247 3-point goals.

Climbing the charts: Sierra Ford-Washington has 783 career points, which ranks 9th on NIACC’s career scoring list … Ford-Washington has 143 career steals (10th on school’s all-time list) … Ford-Washington has scored 529 points in her sophomore season (7th on school’s single-season list) … Logan Anderson has 464 points in her freshman season (12th on school’s single-season list) … Lentz has 75 three-point goals in her freshman season (11th on school’s career three-point list).

Last time out: The Trojans dropped a 81-73 decision to Southwestern on Wednesday. Freshman Mike Udume led the Trojans with a career-high 24 points.

NJCAA Region XI tournament: The winner of Tuesday’s NIACC/Ellsworth game plays at top-seeded DMACC on Thursday. DMACC received a first-round bye.

Indoor track and field

What’s next: The NIACC men’s and women’s track and field teams compete at the NJCAA indoor championships Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Last time out: NIACC’s Hannah Palmeter won the mile in a school-record time of 5:06.69 at the NJCAA Region XI meet on Saturday in Storm Lake. Also for the NIACC women, Rellie Kaputin tied for first in the high jump with a leap of 1.66 meters. For the NIACC men, Trey Simons placed second in the mile at the regional meet in a time of 4:24.34.

Last time out: NIACC split a pair of games with Butler Community College on Feb. 14. The Trojans won the first game 2-1 and dropped the second game 5-0.

What’s next: The NIACC softball team (3-4 overall) returns to action Thursday and Friday I Rosemount, Minn. The Lady Trojans play DCTC at 8 a.m. on Thursday and Marshalltown at 10 a.m. On Friday, the Lady Trojans play DCTC at 10 a.m. and Marshalltown at noon.

Last time out: NIACC went 1-2 in three games at the RCTC Earlybird tournament. The Lady Trojans topped RCTC 7-6 and dropped a 5-3 decision to No. 12 Iowa Central and a 11-2 decision to Marshalltown.
