Iowa pops Cornhuskers, 74-46

logo_iowa_hawkeyesLINCOLN, NE – Iowa notched its fourth straight win over Nebraska with a commanding 74-46 victory in Lincoln Sunday afternoon. The 28-point margin of victory is Iowa’s largest win against Nebraska, ever.

Iowa came out firing on offense and defense, closing the first half on a 21-2 run while making 8 of its last 9 shots to build an insurmountable 42-16 lead. The Hawkeyes shot 51.4% from the field (19-37) and 80% from 3-point range (4-5) the first half.

“I was proud of the guys,” said Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery. “Defensively, from the opening tip, they were locked in, on the glass they were locked in, and our decision making was good. We played with a good pace for the entire 40 minutes.”

Nebraska (13-14, 5-10) coach Tim Miles wasn’t as thrilled with how his team played.

“A 21-2 run to end the first is disgusting; We have to fight our tails off to get back into this game,” he said at halftime.

Iowa (17-10, 8-6) was led by Aaron White, who registered his second double-double of the season and 14th of his career. He logged 18 points and 11 boards while surpassing Devyn Marble for fifth on Iowa’s all-time scoring list (1,697 points).

Iowa’s last four Big Ten wins have all come by double digits.

Iowa returns home Wednesday to host Illinois on Mediacom Court. Game time is set for 8 PM.
