Wal-Mart announces raises for thousands of employees

Propaganda released by Wal-Mart on February 19, 2015:

Mason City Wal-Mart

“We had a good fourth quarter to close out our fiscal year, with underlying EPS of $1.61. Walmart U.S. delivered better than expected comp sales. Sam’s Club had its best performance of the year, and Walmart International had solid sales and profitability,” said Doug McMillon, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. president and CEO. “Like many other global companies, we faced significant headwinds from currency exchange rate fluctuations, so I’m pleased that we delivered fiscal year revenue of $486 billion. But, we’re not satisfied.”

According to McMillon, the leadership teams are very focused on improving customer experiences through various investments and program initiatives, and for several months, developed and tested new ideas to reward associates for serving customers.

“We have work to do to grow the business. We know what customers want from a shopping experience, and we’re investing strategically to exceed their expectations and better position Walmart for the future,” said McMillon. “Our first priority is to run great stores and clubs. We will continue to integrate our physical locations with a great e-commerce and mobile commerce business. We’re strengthening investments in our people to engage and inspire them to deliver superior customer experiences. We will earn the trust of all Walmart stakeholders by operating great retail businesses, ensuring world-class compliance, and doing good in the world through social and environmental programs in our communities.”

McMillon announced a bold new initiative on pay and training for U.S. associates. Approximately 500,000 full-time and part-time associates at Walmart U.S. stores and Sam’s Clubs will receive pay raises in the first half of the current fiscal year. Current and future associates will benefit from this initiative, which ensures that Walmart hourly associates earn at least $1.75 above today’s federal minimum wage, or $9.00 per hour, in April. The following year, by Feb. 1, 2016, current associates will earn at least $10.00 per hour.

“Today, we announced comprehensive changes to our hiring, training, compensation and scheduling programs, as well as to our store management structure. These changes will give our U.S. associates the opportunity to earn higher pay and advance in their careers. We’re pursuing a comprehensive approach that is sustainable over the long term,” explained McMillon. “By realigning our store operational structure, associates can enjoy a closer relationship with their supervisors. In addition, associates will have more control over their schedules. The investment in these initiatives is more than $1 billion for this fiscal year.”

Walmart associates already have the opportunity for competitive health-care and 401(k) benefits, sick leave, and access to bonus incentive opportunities, discounts and educational programs. These benefits and programs will continue to be available to current and future associates.

“Sam Walton knew that an inspired, dedicated team of associates was the way to exceed our customers’ expectations,” said McMillon. “He often said ‘Our people make the difference.’ I feel a big responsibility to carry on what that phrase represents: the care and commitment that Sam had for Walmart associates.”

As part of today’s announcement, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation also committed $100 million over five years to help increase the economic mobility for entry level workers by advancing their careers. This initiative will benefit the retail and service industries. The Walmart Foundation will work with other foundations, employers, community colleges and non-profit organizations to address a fundamental challenge in America — how to better train and advance workers in the retail and adjacent sectors. Today, more than 15 million people, including 7 million women, work in retail.

“Beyond this commitment, Walmart is also piloting a new, comprehensive on-boarding and training program to create clear career pathways for associates, so they can earn more and seek promotions,” McMillon explained. “We’re encouraging our associates to continue their education by providing no-cost access for them to complete their high school diploma or GED, as well as free and low-cost college credit to reduce the time and cost of earning a college degree. The skills and training that an associate receives through this program will be transferable outside of Walmart.”

“Walmart has represented a ladder of opportunity since Sam started the business, and we want to make sure that’s the case going forward everywhere we operate, including here in the United States,” added McMillon. “Globally, we have ongoing efforts in place to review our associates’ compensation on a yearly basis in each of our markets. We’re also proud of the growth opportunities we provide our associates around the world through training and career advancement programs.”

I engaged in a heated debate about Dollar Tree and similar stores which offer multitudes of goods for $1 or less. I alleged that supporting such stores was essentially supporting the concept of communism. The idea of communism is to break down all profitable value on goods to an equal and attainable level. America is moving over to a communist model, and Fox Drudge Limbaugh zealots are too ignorant or proud to see it. Communism is here people. America IS communist.

So buying a cheap product for a cheap price is communism? You need to grow up peter, you have no clue period.

So buying Tide, Charmin, or any other Proctor and Gamble product which are manufactured here in the United States is communism? How so? You have no idea what you are talking about Peter.

I buy quite a few things at dollar tree and they don’t last as long as the stuff I buy from hyvee but at least it’s cheap.

Listen to the man with his hand held out to receive his free money. He knows communism when he sees it!

There are some people who will continue to cheer-lead on America no matter what she does, and these are the people whom pose the biggest danger to a good intellectually honest discussion concerning policies and decisions being made. They denigrate anyone who doesn’t fall down on their knees and pray to the Jesus and the color scheme they believe in. It’s really a cult that we’re faced with…not a country.

The sheer ferocity and rabidness of their attacks against any creative liberty, or out-of-the-box thinking leads me to fear the worst when it comes to the intellectual and spiritual future of this country. The basics of what we’re postulating is quite simple: it’s called regional sustainability…not that threatening of a concept…but to these NIT Cujos you’d think we were proposing a Pol-Pot work farm. It’s ludicrous how these attacks were allowed to become the NIT gold standard.

Welcome Home boyfriend!

You can always go away,AGAIN.

Move over Matt. LVS is in charge.

You can go away too troll.

I’m not a fan of shopping at Walmart. But across the country, they do employ thousands of people and they pay above mininum wage and offer health insurance. When you talk about their things being made in China, have you ever noticed the tags at Hobby Lobby? Pretty much everything in that store is made outside of this country, and made very cheaply, and shabby. And their prices are pretty high on their “made in China” stuff.

Many large retailers sell things that are not made in the USA, not just Walmart. Even clothing stores, I’ve seen clothes that are made in India, Indonesia, many countries other than here. So to say it’s only Walmart buying from other countries simply is not true. And Walmart sells grocery items which are manufactured here in the U.S. I understand they have destroyed some small communities, but as far as Mason City, the city leaders past and present have destroyed Mason City, not Walmart.

A rebuttal to LMC post on 20 Feb at 9:45am. How many organizations on the list of 400 are legit. Also, if Wal-Mart closed all of it’s stores in the US, what would be the economic impact on legal, voting, tax payers in support of the 1.4 million workers that are now, not working at all.

The picture of trash is old, I’m thinking that the garbage has been picked up and the cans removed, because this town is filled with lazy pigs. Also, wal mart is not the only retail business in this town that sells asian made items. The next time you go to any retail business, check their labels, you will not find very many items made in the USA. Where would these ” white-trash Jerry Springer, trailer trash” shop. Oh I know, the government.

You’re missing the point Allen. The point being of course that Wal-Mart pioneered the importation of Chinese goods, and mastered the art of screwing manufacturers and distributors to the lowest point possible…gobbling up businesses, and distributing their leftover inventory…all while flying the Red, White, and Blue as loudly and proudly as possible. They are essentially agents of Communist China, and are traitors to American democracy and human rights. Yep, you read me right.

So, I am to believe that what you are saying is the undeniable truth. Other then your opinion, where did you get that information. Also you are saying that Wal-Mart is forcing, Penny’s, Younker’s, Kohls, and all the other major retailers to buy and sell Asian products. I have to doubt that is true. What I don’t doubt is corporate greed, of which they all fall into. If you were to google any/all the stores listed above, you would learn some shocking information. It isn’t only Wal-Mart

Can we all at least agree that walmart sucks and does nothing good for America? Nothing they sell is made in America. They bully their way into communities and close down small businesses.

Agreed! I have always hated the vibe and atmosphere of Wal-Mart. It puts off a white-trash Jerry Springer, short-term greedy trailer trash vibe to it. Of course any lab rat human is going to be appreciative of cheap prices…but the long game is hard to comprehend when you’re impoverished. The model of internal superstore they pioneered, but they went rogue and must be punished into bankruptcy. Change the star to a Red One.

birds of a feather flock together.

So you’re pro walmart then?

I didn’t say that.

You just can’t bring yourself to agree publicly with Philosphus and myself? Too one dimensional and can’t cross party lines?

There is 1 thing I have learned from you and peter, if you 2 believe in something then it is morally and spiritually wrong.

Because supporting a business that supports the government of Communist China with their exemplary track record of human rights, and western democratic values is morally and spiritually right?

When I posted that I wasn’t talking about walmart.

Then what in the hell are you talking about maybe?

All you said was that I couldn’t bring myself to agree with you and peter, there is a reason for that because when it comes to drugs or religion you 2 are way off, in my opinion.

#Maybe, you misunderstand me when it comes to the subject of “communism”. most of my reference to the word communism is to point out the hypocrisy of American capitalism intermingling with fascists communist countries while pretending to support American ideals; the sell out of the American labor force being a prime example.the only communist principle I believe in is that of land sharing.every human should be entitled to an acre of land. Beyond that, you work for goods.

I believe humans reach a true freedom and liberation when they are free from the subjugation of other men hookah man rents from them for their basic need to procure shelter and to sleep; resting and restoring their bodies. with that any natural resourcesvital to the sustaining of life, such as water should also be held in the public domain. But if you work or provide a service or have a talent then by all means you should be rewarded and be able to capitalize from that.

Typo alert: (the damn droid voice recognition software) That should read “men who command rents”.

Thanks Maybe…….you got Peter going. Now he won’t ever shut up. He will be toking away and going on, and on and on with his b.s. beliefs. Blah, blah, blah. Peter, I thought you were leaving this site. Whatever happened with that?

To what do I owe this displeasure? What’s REALLY eating at you Anonymous? You’ve been riding my butt for sometime now; acting like I floated a turd your way in the hot tub. Out with it.

Are you scared of thoughts you don’t understand? Does your belief system get messed up to the point you become angry and confused? Do you think Jesus blesses Wal Mart? Do you love the impenetrable safety and security of status quo America? Do you believe divine manifest destiny has America’s back no-matter-what? Something has really spooked you and I’m curious what it was.

@LeftMC: have you noticed the manner in which many of these people conduct themselves on NIT is insulting and dismissive? Rude is an understatement. If you don’t put out what they want to see, they attack and denigrate you. It’s real frat-boy crap.

with the raise of the minimum wage now if it is made in america the stores will have to raise the prices just to make ends meet. I am not condoning walmart buying products made in china or other countries but by doing that we can stiff afford it. The products might be made in other countries but t least walmart employees americans.

Peter, I can’t believe you are talking about others being rude on this site. YOU are the rudest person on here. You put everyone down. You say horrible things to people, name calling, etc. You have used vulgar language, you have put Matt down and degraded his site. But you still are here. Matt should delete you permanently. You have NO respect for anyone! If people don’t think your way, watch out. You treat them like crap. You are a first class jerk.

You know nothing of the real world. Tired of hearing people should be given land, and this and that. Get a job! That’s how you become successful in life. But you wouldn’t know that, you can’t hold down a job. You think you know everything about raising a child, but you don’t have kids. You’re a know it all nothing! Don’t you get it? No one likes you. No one likes hearing your b.s. You’re a spoiled man child with nothing better to do than sit on this site and act like an ass. Go away!

You hate Walmart so much, and you know what. They wouldn’t even hire you to be a greeter. First of all, you have zero people skills, second you have to pass a drug test. And that’s another thing. I’m all for medical marijuana in terminal patients. But I used to smoke years ago and I know what it does to your brain and body. People that are high do not think clearly. They are intoxicated when they are driving. And no I do not think it’s ok. And ALOT of people agree with me.

You’re a burned out pot head who lives in his mother’s basement. Yet, you want people to respect you and your beliefs, when you treat everyone like crap. And by the way. Pot is still illegal. And since you are so open about it on here. I’m sure your law enforcement that you put down all the time will find every reason possible to pull you over. So, keep that in mind. And safety checks are legal. They can pull you over any time they want. Now do us all the pleasure of leaving like you’ve…

Nearly every statement you made is incorrect. I don’t live in Iowa, I don’t smoke marijuana. I don’t put people’s beliefs down. I’m not an overgrown man-child. I’m none of those things. I am a person who has been victimized with no recompense or justice. I am a person who has been belittled and badgered on NIT from the very first comment I made (by the NIT Bulldog regulars). You have none of the facts, and your information and surmising are WRONG.

btw…I used to work at Wal-Mart Super Center in Coralville, IA…hardware section. I slept in my car in the parking lot because I was homeless, but nonetheless caught the attention of the general manager who took note of the hard work I was performing. I quit when a jealous Hardware boss, started messing with me, by sending me out numerous times to the storage lockers to retrieve one or two things at a time. The general manager tried unsuccessfully to keep me from quitting.

@Anonymous-Philly (Peter) is the least qualified person there is to talk about WalMart or any other business that has people who work for a living. He has never held a real job more that two weeks in his miserable, spoiled brat life. He has no knowledge of what it takes to EARN a living because everything has always been given to the spoiled, liberal brat.

@Philly-You are a Liar and you know it and we know it. You have never worked in your life.

Just the other day Peter, you said it yourself…”marijuana helps my condition”. And you also said to have LVS’ wife send you a text when he’s left this earth, so basically when he’s dead. In the past, you’ve called people pricks, bitches, and God forbid if a lady by the name Mary Beth posts anything on here, you lynch her. Do you not remember saying these things? Were you high when you said these things? Do you have multiple personalities, or are you bi-polar? Or are you just a liar?

@Anonymous-He is just a liar. He makes crap up in his mind and then puts it on here. He should really be committed again.

Anonymous: The part these bully trolls like the best is when they get to shape and re-write history to their miserable advantage. Everyone who has been here on NIT from the beginning knows that LVS, Observer, Big Country, Whitey, and many others lambasted me from the very first comment I ever made. You’re coming into the game past halftime. You have no idea what you’re talking about. LVS is a miserable troll of a man and he knows it. Everyone knows it.

I’m not rewriting anything that you didn’t write yourself Peter. You honestly dont remember saying that marijuana helps your condition? What exactly is your condition? Go away Peter, you are a sickening person.

with multiple personalities one would not remember what the other has said. I do recall peter and I having a very interesting and civil conversation then seconds later he is calling me all kinds of names, makes ya wonder.

While I haven’t received a formal diagnosis yet. It’s looking like I was struck with Rheumatic Fever. The condition benefits from corticosteroids such as prednisone, or anti-inflammatories like aspirin. I believe that marijuana has a therapeutic effect because it relaxes the body and reduces inflammation. I also suffered heart damage and I take Hawthorn Berries to improve cardiac circulation. I don’t have mental illness, just a very complicated rheumatic condition.

Telling me to “go away” is cowardly on your part. You don’t tell anyone who can stay or who can go. I don’t have a physically confrontational nature to me (I’m very passive), but direct bullying to me will elicit a response. I was intimidated by a coked out Marine at the City Center once, and that was because I was shocked and startled at what had happened. Normally I don’t fight friends. But when I place you in the non-friend category and you bother me it’s a different story.

@Philly-I would tell you to get worse but then you would end up in the hospital and we have have to pay for it again, just like when you went to five east all those times and the working taxpayer had to pay for it.

WoW-we are all sure scared now. The coward might put us on his bad side. I am sure worried about a big mouth coward like him. Smoke another joint pot head and mellow out.

Violence isn’t all that difficult to do. When you make up your mind to become violent and attack someone…it’s fairly easy. Restraint on the other hand takes the real work. I’ve operated with restraint and composure my entire life. I’ve eaten so much crap because of my commitment to non violence. It’s actually made me a bit neurotic inside. It’s so much easier and cathartic to let the fists start flying. I’m just saying that I can get to the point where I’ve had enough.

Cowards are always looking for excuses.

Always looking to evoke that visceral response aren’t you Clint “LVS” Eastwood: “Go ahead, make my day”. “Are you feeling lucky punk?”. I’ll bet you tell the Asians next door to stay off your lawn…coughing up blood, and still drinking whiskey and smoking. I’ll bet you pissed off your kids and they don’t like to see you on family reunions as well.

That’s all right chicken sh##. We all know you are nothing but a big mouth coward. No matter how you try to cover it up it still comes out. It will be damn cold in your mothers basement tomorrow and with any luck you will freeze.

@LVS….I’m guessing the expert must have dribbled the Vegas job down his leg too. Don’t worry about him looking for you either (I know you’re not) because like I’ve experienced, he’s all mouth and no ass.

Buzz I think you are wrong on this one, he is actually more ass than mouth and since his mouth is pretty big…

@Buzz-You are correct. Philly doesn’t scare me at all. If he ever decides to come after me he will leave in a ambulance. I will not mess with a idiot like that. He had better wake up that people are getting very fed up with his type of crap. Now his and Lefty’s Muslim buddy’s are threatening to attack the Mall of America. People have just about had enough of this crap. And it is happening because of Obama and his policy.

Phili claims he has been diagnosed with rheumatic fever. Strange seeing that it’s an illness more prevalent in people 5-15 years of age and outside of the United States. Makes one wonder where he comes up with this stuff.

@Lefty-all liberals sucking down the welfare.

Don’t you think the real villain here is the corporate monstrosity that is Walmart? The nations largest retailer paying horrible, non livable wages, selling Chinese made crap? Walmart does nothing good for America.

The only Americans walmart supports are their executives and the republican politicians who like to suckle at the teet of their corporate overlords.

Are you sure your middle name isn’t ignorance? You seem to spit out facts that are made up. Check out this article and you will see that they try to spread their contributions around. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/18/walmart-political-contributions_n_3461267.html

LOL did you read the article YOU linked? “Fifty-eight percent of the PAC’s donations and 76 percent of the Walton family’s contributions went to candidates endorsed by the pro-gun lobby between 2005 and 2012, the report said. During the same period, 77 percent of the PAC’s contributions to candidates went to those who either opposed or were silent on gay marriage, while 94 percent of the Walton family’s contributions went to candidates silent on or opposed to gay marriage.”

Yes I did read it, they said the family and the PAC are 2 different things and the PAC donated 49% democrat. Thats why I said they tried to spread it around. You implied that they donated totally republican and that just isn’t true.

@Lefty-If you don’t like WalMart just don’t go there. You and your big mouth buddy are not wanted anyway. Thousands of people depend on WalMart for a living and you two are idiots.

Millions of people rely on North Korea’s and China’s distribution of products and services. What’s your point?
