NIACC’s Anderson, Williams earn ICCAC player of week honors

MASON CITY – NIACC’s Logan Anderson and Braxton Williams both earned ICCAC player of the week honors this week.

Anderson, a freshman from Clear Lake, was the women’s player of the week as she helped lead the No. 9 Lady Trojans to three victories. Williams, a sophomore from West Plains, Mo., earned the men’s weekly honor as he led the Trojans to a 2-1 mark.

Anderson scored 30 points with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals against Iowa Lakes on Jan. 15. She scored 24 points with career-high 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals against Ellsworth on Jan. 24 and scored 10 points with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and career-high 4 steals against the William Penn junior varsity on Jan. 25.

Anderson averages 17.2 points per game. She has 45 3-point goals, 45 assists and 30 steals.

It’s the fourth time this season a NIACC women’s player has earned league player of the week honors. Sophomore Sierra Ford-Washington has won the award three times (Nov. 3-9, Dec. 1-6 and Jan. 12-18) and freshman Anna Eckert also won the award (Nov. 17-23).

Williams scored a career-high 22 points with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal against Iowa Lakes. He scored 17 points with 6 rebounds and 2 steals against Ellsworth and scored 14 points with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and career-high 8 steals against the Wartburg College junior varsity on Jan. 25.

Williams averages 12.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He has 52 steals and 38 assists.

It’s the second time this season a NIACC men’s player has earned the weekly league award. Sophomore Al Davis also won the award (Jan. 5-10).

The NIACC women (15-4 overall, 4-1 in the ICCAC) and men (13-9, 3-2) return to action Wednesday in a league twinbill at Southwestern. The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game to follow.
