IOWA FALLS – The No. 5 NIACC wrestling team dropped a 25-10 dual-meet decision to No. 8 Ellsworth on Tuesday.
Ellsworth won seven of the 10 matches.
Picking up wins for the Trojans were Shiquan Hall (133), Yoanse Mejias (157) and Lawrence Phillips (285).
Hall, who is ranked 12th, recorded a 15-6 major decision over Ellsworth’s Jacob Igartua. Mejias, who is ranked No. 1, recorded a 5-3 decision over Sam Andresen and Phillips, who is ranked 12th, took a 4-0 decision from 10th ranked Dalonte Holland.
Hall improved to 18-7, Mejias is 21-2 and Phillips is 10-4.
NIACC (1-1 in duals) returns to action Saturday at home with the regional duals. The Trojans face RCTC at 10:30 a.m., Itasca CC at noon, Northland Community and Technical College at 1:30 p.m. and Ridgewater College at 3 p.m.
For the record: Paul Mascarenas (125) is 15-6, Jake Marlin (141) is 13-4, Nosomy Pozo (149) is 19-6, Quincy Kalkbrenner (165) is 10-7, Ben Wallace (174) is 11-10, Ivan Herrera (184) is 1-9, Kyler Mathews (197) is 6-6.
Notes: Mejias has a career record of 57-4 … Pozo has a career mark of 44-9.
