CEDAR RAPIDS – An armed man entered a Cedar Rapids bank Friday afternoon and demanded cash.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department responded to a late afternoon bank robbery that occurred at U.S. Bank at 129 16th Avenue SW. The bank robbery was reported at 4:14 p.m. The robbery suspect entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded cash. The suspect then left the bank on foot. No injuries were reported.
The follow-up investigation resulted in 44-year-old Tony Alan Spies of 807 2nd Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, being arrested and charged with felony B first degree robbery. He was also charged with felony theft in the second degree. Spies was located and arrested without incident at about 9:30 PM at 4420 Bowling Street SW, Apartment #A6, in Cedar Rapids.
This investigation relied heavily on the public’s assistance in providing officers and investigators with good witness information, Cedar Rapids police said.
