Mason City shooter’s prison term reduced to 10 years

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who shot another man years ago has returned to a Fort Madison prison with a reduced sentence.

Bradley Bilyeu was found guilty of first-degree robbery and assault with intent to commit serious injury in 2010 after the 2008 shooting and robbery of Robert Schukei at his home. Bilyeu was sent to prison for 25 years for the robbery charge and a concurrent sentence of 2 years on the assault charge. He was originally charged with felony first degree robbery and felony attempted murder.

Bilyeu lost an appeal in the case, but later filed a request for post-conviction relief in which his sentence could be reduced. He was granted a non-jury trial which was scheduled for November 10 but a judge granted a continuance until a later date.

Finally, on December 16, Bilyeu’s 25-year sentence for robbery was reduced to just 10 years.  He has already been sent back to Fort Madison to continue serving his sentence, which began in 2010.

I remember when this happened. I was staying with a friend across from Hoover school, mere blocks away. A group of thugs busted into his home looking for marijuana and shot him with a shotgun. This is incredible. There are people sentenced to life in prison for growing marijuana (a plant) and this guy attempted to kill someone with a firearm and will be set free soon. WTF is wrong with this dumbass Christian culture? Make violence a throw away offense! Promote civility
