Waterloo police car rammed, suspect arrested

WATERLOO – A man was arrested in Waterloo after ramming a cop car and sending two officers to the hospital.

Waterloo police reported that on the morning of Tuesday, December 16, 2014, the Waterloo Police Department responded to a report of problems with Kelvin Lee Plain Jr., age 25, at 4045 Niles Street.

Upon arrival, Plain was found outside the residence and after talking with the complaining party, he was asked to leave by police. Plain drove away from the residence and then returned a few minutes later accelerating his vehicle to high rate of speed towards the officers’ location. He then rammed one of the police vehicles that was occupied by an officer. That patrol vehicle was forced into a second police vehicle, which was also occupied by a police officer. As a result, two police officers were injured, two patrol vehicles received extensive damage as well as damage to Plain’s vehicle and a fourth vehicle that was parked on the street.

Kelvin Lee Plain Jr. was arrested and transported to the Black Hawk County Jail where he was charged with Assault on Peace Officer With Intent to Injure, Assault on Peace Officer Using a dangerous weapon and first degree Criminal Mischief.

Both police officers were transported to Allen Hospital for their injuries. Both were treated and released to limited duty.
