Mason City man pleads guilty to felony domestic assault, charged with violating probation

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who pled guilty in September to felony domestic assault involving strangulation and was put on probation instead of going to prison is now jailed, charged with violating his probation.

Mason City police charged 24-year-old Jesse Mugan with felony domestic assault involving strangulation, felony second offense domestic assault, felony false imprisonment and simple misdemeanor obstruction of emergency communications after an incident on June 28.

In September, Mugan pleaded guilty to felony domestic assault and was given 5 years of probation. The charge of felony second offense domestic assault was dismissed, and he pleaded guilty to false imprisonment. He was ordered to pay $1,386.83 in fines and court costs and sent to jail for 30 days. He was ordered to make $50 per month payments beginning in October, but records show he failed to follow through.

On November 13, he was accused of violating his probation and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is now jailed on $5,000 bond as he awaits a December 12 probation revocation hearing.
