RURAL CERRO GRODO COUNTY – A two-car accident claimed the life of a Sheffield woman Friday.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2000 Freightliner semi driven by 61-year-old Thomas Turek of Clear Lake was westbound on county road B43 at about 11:15 AM Friday, November 21. At the same time, a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 31-year-old Melissa Alford of Sheffield was northbound on Lark Avenue. Alford’s vehicle entered the intersection, where it was broadsided by the semi.
Alford was later pronounced dead. She was wearing a seatbelt. Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
