MASON CITY – A man is dead and the passenger on his motorcycle is now in critical condition after a collision with a pickup truck driven by a wanted man in Mason City.
On November 22, 2014 at about 1653 hours, Mason City Police were dispatched to a collision at Highway 122 and South Pierce Avenue. A truck driven by Victor Rivera, age 47, from Mason City struck a motorcycle and left the scene. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were transported to North Iowa Mercy Health Center by the Mason City Fire Department. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the hospital and the passenger is in critical condition.
A Cerro Gordo County Deputy located the vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop until it reached the 1500 block of North Madison. Rivera was arrested there on five valid arrest warrants from Cerro Gordo County. One warrant was for Aggravated Domestic Assault from a Mason City case, four others for FTA Going Armed with Intent, FTA Burglary 1st Degree, FTA Disorderly Conduct and FTA Interference with Official Acts all from a Clear lake case. Rivera was transported and held at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
No other names are being released at this time and the accident is still under investigation. More information will be released when it becomes available. The Criminal Investigation Unit and the Technical Investigation Unit of the Mason City Police Department were called in to assist. Also assisting was the Mason City Fire Department and the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office.
