Mason City woman’s trial in shaken baby case pushed back to next year

CHARLES CITY – A woman who claims to live in Mason City has pleaded not guilty to charges of felony child endangerment and her trial has been postponed until next year.

Stephanie M. Fatland, age 22, was arrested by Floyd county deputies on August 11 on three charges of felony child endangerment. On September 8, Fatland pled not guilty in Floyd county district court. Fatland is the mother to a 5-month old child whom she is accused of shaking on three occasions in July. She finally took the child to a hospital on July 20, and hospital staff notified law enforcement of injuries the child sustained that are consistent with shaking of a small child.

Fatland was scheduled for a December 2 trial, but a continuance was granted this week. Her jury trial is now scheduled for January 27th.

Via social media, Fatland claims to live in Mason City and work at the Other Place restaurant in Clear Lake since May 6, 2014.
