Emmetsburg woman slapped with fine and jail for stealing from Kohl’s

MASON CITY – An Emmetsburg woman pleaded guilty to a theft charge after she was caught with a man stealing from Kohl’s Department store last month.

Jeannette Carol Lappegard, age 65 of Emmetsburg, pled guilty to a charge of fourth degree theft tis week and was immediately jailed. She was given a 365 day jail sentence with 363 days suspended. She was also given two years of probation and ordered to pay $650.25 in fines and court fees.

Police were called to Kohl’s, 556 Indianhead Drive, on October 13 at about 1:00 PM after employees called police about a theft. Police arrested Lappegard and 37-year-old Todd Lee Brown of Ruthven.

Brown pleaded not guilty to a charge of third degree theft and now awaits a December 30 jury trial.

Lappegard pled guilty to fifth degree theft in Woodbury county in 2012.

Brown is a convicted felon out of Kossuth county on burglary charges. He pled guilty to third degree theft here in Cerro Gordo county in 2011 and is accused of violating his probation. He will be in court to answer to that charge on December 12.

Woman sure took her ugly pills.

So, she sits two days in jail with a 365 day sentence, who was the judge here? Sounds lenient to me.
