EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson has been suspended for the remainder of the NFL season with no pay after his guilty plea in a child abuse case.
The Vikings had made indications that they would take Peterson back as soon as he is eligible. In a statement following the league’s decision, the Vikings said “The NFL has informed the Vikings of today’s decision regarding Adrian Peterson. We respect the league’s decision and will have no further comment at this time.”
Peterson had no immediate comment. Most of his public statements in recent weeks have been bible verses via his Twitter account.
If suspension holds, Adrian Peterson will reportedly lose $4,147,059. He has already been given a paid leave of $7,602,941. The league’s player association immediately said it would appeal the decision, and that appeal would be heard by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
