MASON CITY – A Minnesota man who entered a guilty plea in a drunk driving and child endangerment case and is awaiting sentencing next month tried to get out of jail Wednesday – and now could be in more trouble.

Court records show that Anthony Lynn Lathrop, age 41 of Chaska, Minnesota, has been held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail since October 20, when he was set to be sentenced in a guilty plea connected to a car accident on March 27 in which he was charged with third offense operating while intoxicated and child endangerment. However, he had skipped a pre-trail hearing and was jailed instead of being sentenced, held on $5,000 bond.

On Wednesday, October 29, court records show that Lathrop attempted to post $5,000 bond, but tried to use counterfeit bills. The bills were rejected and Lathrop was put back in jail. NIT has sought more details on the counterfeit bills Lathrop attempted to use and if any new charges will be files, and awaits that information at this time. Lathrop now awaits a November 24 sentencing hearing.
