MASON CITY – Police arrested a man at his home Thursday for violating his probation for a fourth time in a stolen car case.
Shawn William Armstrong, age 41, was taken to jail Thursday on a warrant related to his fourth probation violation in a stolen car case from 2011. According to a police incident report, Armstrong was arrested on August 1, 2011 after Mason City police responded to a call from a concerned citizen walking her dog who observed Armstrong trying to drive a red vehicle into the water on the west side in the black pit, just west of Pierce Avenue. Other witnesses observed Armstrong leaving the area and continued to watch him until law enforcement arrived. Law enforcement determined the vehicle had been stolen from a storage shed. He later pled guilty to drunk driving and theft in the second degree.
Armstrong is being held on $5,000 cash-only bond as he awaits a hearing on November 14.
Currently, Armstrong has two recent arrests and connected charges he is dealing with that are the likely causes of his probation violation. He was arrested in August for third or subsequent offense public intoxication and awaits a December 2 jury trial. He was also arrested on for second degree harassment on October 15, and will be arraigned on October 29 in that case.
