CLEAR LAKE – Deputies with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office went to the Silver Boot motel Tuesday to evict the last of the people who were there, after a judge ruled last week that they had to leave.

“The evictions went well without incident,” Sheriff Kevin Pals told NIT Tuesday evening. “My deputies told me there were only three residents left when we arrived for the writ today. Everyone else had moved out. Everyone is gone now.”

Last week, a judge ruled that everyone must leave the hotel, located at 1214 South Shore Drive, so that a sale of the property could commence. Deputies executed that order Tuesday.

“They basically just took their clothes this morning and had no place to go,” a source told NIT about the people who left the hotel. Previously, power had been shut off at the motel, but some remained in the rooms, leading to the court hearing and the eviction notice.

The evictions end a nasty dispute between people staying in the motel and the owner Ted Christianson, who has wanted to clear the motel so he could finish a deal that hands the business to new owners.

That new owner is Katie Showalter of neighboring Rumorz Bar and Grill, who hopes to finalize the purchase of the business as soon as possible and take ownership from Christianson. She plans to re-name The Silver Boot Motel to Rumorz Neighborhood Hideaway.

Regarding the sale, Showalter told NIT that “I think we will close next week. Ted has to clean it out. Thank god the purchase agreement said ’empty of people and junk.'”

Pictures posted to social media of the rooms people were staying in until Tuesday were essentially “trashed” with debris and garbage strewn about.

Showalter previously told NIT that she is excited to begin work on renovations, and all the single and double rooms will be upgraded.

“We are completely redoing all rooms for a great overnight stay. We will have limited rooms the first 6 months as the renovation is completed.”

She said that some rooms may be ready for occupancy by early November.
