Mason City man ordered to pay over $1,000 to repair damages done to hotel room

MASON CITY – A Mason City man has pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and other charges and must pay restitution for damages done to a local hotel room.

Tyler James Trappe, age 22, was arrested and jailed after Mason City police were called to the Holiday Inn Express hotel, located at 3041 4th Street SW, on January 17 at about 3:00 AM. Police responded after a call alerting them to an out of control subject who turned out to be Trappe. A source told NIT that “a lot of damage” was done and someone who was at the room may have suffered an injury, but it was not revealed who that was.

Trappe was charged with public intoxication and third degree criminal mischief in connection with this incident. He plead guilty on January 17 to the public intoxication charge and was fined and charged court costs totaling $330.00. On September 5, Trappe also pled guilty to the third degree criminal mischief charge and was ordered to jail for seven days and required to pay $2,421.93 in fines, costs and restitution of over $1,000.

Trappe is now serving his jail sentence and has been allowed work release and a $100 per month payment plan.
