MASON CITY – Sometimes, lunch is free, when the intentions are to help people and make outreach to the community.

Mason City law enforcement will do just that this week, as they hold a forum called Seniors and Law Enforcement Together “S.A.L.T.” geared toward senior citizens. The forum will be held at the Mason City Senior Center, located at 326 4th Street NE, on Thursday, October 23 from 8:45 AM to noon.

“Everything at the forum is targeted towards seniors,” Sheriff Kevin Pals told NIT. “Booths include, Elderbridge on Aging, banks with senior services, nursing homes, etc. Mason City Police and Sheriff’s Office will have a representative that opens the forum with a welcome.”

The program will begin at 10:00 AM and include law enforcement updates and presentations:

• The Price of Freedom is Not Free – Kathy Tumilson
• The New Iowa POA & Durable POA Law – Diane DiPietro Wilson, Attorney at Iowa Legal Aid

A free lunch will be served, courtesy of: Kraft Foods, Clear Lake Fareway, Mason City Fareway, Whiskey Creek Woodfire Grill, Cerro Gordo County Beef Producers, Pepsi and
HyVee West.

Those who attend are also encouraged to bring outdated or no longer used prescription medication for proper disposal.

SALT holds two forums a year; the third Thursday of October and April.
