CROSS COUNTRY

What’s next: The NIACC men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action Oct. 24 at the NJCAA Region XI meet in Emmetsburg.

Last time out: The No. 17 NIACC men won the overall team title and the junior college division at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invitational last Saturday with 58 points. The No. 15 NIACC women were fifth overall and were the junior college champions with 126 points.

Freshman Trey Simons led the NIACC men at St. Ambrose with a first-place finish in the 8-kilometer race in a school-record time of 25 minutes, 24 seconds. Sophomore Hannah Palmeter won the women’s 5K race in a personal-best time of 18:20, which is the second fastest time in school history.

Last time out: NIACC dropped a 3-0 decision to the Wartburg College junior varsity last Friday and a 3-0 decision to Iowa Lakes last Saturday.

What’s next: The NIACC men’s soccer team (3-7-2, 2-4-2) returns to action Wednesday at Indian Hills (2-10, 1-7). Match time is set for 4 p.m.

NIACC topped Indian Hills 3-1 on Sept. 16 in Mason City.

Last time out: NIACC dropped a 4-2 decision to Scott Community College last Saturday.

Leading the way: Freshman Kevin Fortes leads NIACC in scoring with 27 points (12 goals, 3 assists). Oblayon Neymah is next in line with 8 points (4 goals) and Erick Guzman has 7 points (2 goals, 3 assists).
