MC sex offender jailed for registry violations

MASON CITY – The Mason City community was graced with his presence back in 2010 after he committed a sexual abuse as a Charles City resident and was sent to the Beje Clark halfway house. He’s been here ever since, and was jailed late Tuesday.

R.T. Harris Jr., age 39, was in the Cerro Gordo County Jail for a few hours Tuesday night before posting bond and being set free. He is accused of undisclosed violations of the Iowa sex offender registry.

Harris is serving 10 years of probation after his 2010 conviction for assault with intent to commit sexual abuse against a woman in Charles City, when he was a resident there, and a conviction for second degree criminal mischief. He was sent to the Beje Clark halfway house in Mason City and never left town once he was released.  He still owes Iowa courts thousands of dollars in unpaid balances, and has been accused of other violent crimes, such as assault on a peace officer causing injury, assault causing injury, and domestic abuse assault.

Harris lives in 109 South Monroe Avenue, a house owned by the Dodge family.
