Hardened drug dealer released from 5-year prison term after 6 months

MASON CITY – Fast food restaurants in Mason City will have one more potential employee to pick from once another hardened drug dealer fresh from the pen gets a bed at the Beje Clark halfway house.

John V. Gerhard, age 53, is convicted methamphetamine dealer from Mason City. He has been caught by Mason City police and Cerro Gordo deputies with meth and marijuana on at lest two occasions. He was sent to Beje in December of 2013 after he was caught the first time by MCPD officers. After he was caught the second time, in January of 2014, Gerhard was accused of bringing drugs into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and trying to help other inmates get high. He was sent to prison for five years in March of this year and served less than six months before he was released earlier this month to go back to his old stomping grounds at Beje Clark.

Gerhard is now tucked away, back in the Cerro Gordo County Jail, awaiting bed space at Beje. He will likely take a very low-paying job in the community and will be a fixture walking or riding a bike to work.
