No foul play suspected in passed-out peeps found around town

investigateMASON CITY – Police were called for a number of incidents over the weekend where people were found passed out in common, public places, but no charges were filed.

Late Friday night, an African-American male subject was found passed out in the grass behind (north of) the Laser Wash at the intersection of 1st Street NW and Monroe Avenue. Police arrived to check on him. Instead of arresting the man, a friend was called to come pick the man up. No charges were filed.

Police and emergency responders were sent to an alley near 918 12th Street NW Saturday afternoon at about 2:00 after a woman was discovered laying there, unresponsive. Police said Monday that the woman, said to be in her mid-twenties – was transported to Mercy Hospital but was uncooperative with ER staff and police. She denies being the victim of any crime and had no obvious recent injuries. Police are investigating some suspected controlled substances found in her possession during the incident. Items will be sent to crime lab for identification, and she has not been charged at this time.

On Sunday afternoon, a male subject was discovered passed out on a bench in the Cultural Crescent near the 300 block of North Federal. The man was sent on his way and not charged with a crime.
