CHARLES CITY – Trouble brewed for much of the day at a Charles City apartment complex, starting when a man allegedly threatened others with a gun.
Police were first called to the area of the 600 block of 11th Street at about 11:00 AM for a disturbance after emergency calls were made that a man had threatened others with a gun. Charles City police and Floyd deputies responded to the scene. After an investigation, 21-year-old Benoise Slaughter was arrested and charged with interference with official acts. He pled guilty the next day and was ordered to pay $147.75 in fines and court costs. In august, Slaughter pled guilty to fighting and violent behavior in Charles City.
A couple of hours later, just after 1:00 PM, Charles City police and Cerro Gordo deputies were called back to the same area for another disturbance where people had guns and other weapons. Officers found that the persons causing the disturbance had left the area.
Then at about 3:18 PM, police and deputies were called back once again to the 600 block of 11th Street. Callers said that many people were fighting. This time, 27-year-old Troyetta Maeweather was arrested and charged with assault causing injury.
