MASON CITY – A Mason City man was arrested for driving drunk with a child in his car.

A Cerro Gordo deputy conducted a traffic stop on September 12 at about 6:47 PM near 4th Street SW and Cerro Gordo Way. A car driven by 56-year-old Willie Harrison Newman was stopped due to traffic violations. There were four passengers in the vehicle which included a three-year-old child.

After an investigation by the deputy, Newman was arrested and charged with aggravated misdemeanor child endangerment; operating while under the influence first offense; no valid driver’s license; and defective muffler system.

Sheriff Kevin Pals could not immediately release Newman’s blood alcohol level, but a test conducted on a male subject by the arresting officer soon after the arrest of Newman showed levels of 0.170 and 0.169.
