HAMPTON – Today the Dietz for Iowa Campaign is touting a successful fundraising event from the Labor Day weekend. The event was held at Mayne’s Grove park south of Hampton this past Sunday, and featured special guest speakers State Senators Brad Zaun (R-Urbandale), Dennis Guth (R-Klemme), and Bill Dix (R-Shell Rock) as well as GOP State Treasurer Candidate Sam Clovis. The Dietz campaign raised more than $1,500 at the event.

“We need Shawn Dietz in the Iowa Senate because right now there is one man in control of the votes in that chamber,” said Brad Zaun in his address to the crowd, “Senator Gronstal as the majority leader of the Iowa Senate has control over every piece of legislation, and if we are successful in electing Shawn, then we can take control away from that one man, and return it to the people of Iowa through their elected Senators.”

Last session 69 bills were passed out of the Iowa House that were never brought up for a vote in the Iowa Senate.

“With 24 Republican Senators having their voices squelched by the majority leader, there are roughly 1.5 million Iowans going without proper representation in the Iowa Senate.” Said Dietz. “This election is important so that we can begin to have honest, civil discussion of the issues at the Capitol. It’s my goal to be a non-partisan public servant to the people of Cerro Gordo, Franklin, and Butler Counties. To do that, we have to ensure that there is a change in leadership in the Iowa Senate.”

“I don’t want to get in a fundraising race.” Said Dietz. “We don’t need to raise more money than our opponent, we just need to make sure we have enough to spread our message. At the end of the day it’s the voice of individuals and families in this district that matter, not dollars from PACs.” To date, the majority of the opposition’s donations reported in 2014 are from political action committees, while all of Dietz’s contributions have come from individuals.

There were more than 30 people in attendance at the Labor Day weekend event, which Dietz says on a holiday, was a pleasant surprise. “I’m proud to have the support of these Senators who have been in Des Moines, and know what it’s like to be under the thumb of Mike Gronstal,” concluded Dietz, “and I’m also proud to have the support of so many individuals and families who are doing what they can to support our campaign and our message.”
