JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) PAC last week announced the 16 recipients of its “Champion of Renewable Fuels” awards for state legislators. The IRFA PAC Board awarded state legislators seeking reelection who maintained a clear voting record supporting renewable fuels and displayed leadership for renewable fuels in the Iowa Legislature. This is the third election cycle that the IRFA PAC has given such recognition.

“The IRFA PAC is proud to support these ‘Champions of Renewable Fuels’ who’ve consistently supported and led on important renewable fuels issues,” stated IRFA PAC Treasurer Walt Wendland, President and CEO of Homeland Energy Solutions. “Iowa is number one in the nation when it comes to renewable fuels production, and that doesn’t happen without great leadership and forward-thinking policies from our elected officials. These award winners have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the renewable fuels industry and have worked tirelessly to strengthen Iowa’s economy by improving opportunities for ethanol and biodiesel.”

Iowa is the nation’s leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 42 ethanol refineries capable of producing more than 3.8 billion gallons annually, including 2 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol production and two cellulosic ethanol facilities currently under construction. In addition, Iowa has 12 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce nearly 315 million gallons annually.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.

Here’s a page with some interesting facts about USA energy total usage.

http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.cfm?id=16511

Renewable energy accounted for 9.29% of our total energy use in 2013.

Whoops, I made a mistake. That wasn’t a percentage, it was the usage in BTUs. Contrasted against the total BTUs consumed, the actual percentage is 9.5%.

@Mediator-Doug, this report is about ALL renewable fuel sources and I believe our conversation was about gasohol or corn based renewable only. I said in one of my comments that wind was becoming cheaper and if the get the cost down on solar which they will, it will be cost efficient too. However, my comments on using food for fuel still stands. It causes corn prices and water prices to increase and when you look at the carbon footprint it makes little sense.

First, you haven’t shown any of that to be factual or significant.
Second, have you ever considered how much of the cost of food is because of the cost of corn? Corn is now about 1/2 of what it was a couple of years ago, but food prices aren’t going down, are they?

I’m sure you have some valid concerns and things aren’t as wonderful as I’d like, but renewables (your original claim) aren’t any problem for us, they are good and growing.

I work in the ethanol industry. Here are some basic facts. We use corn from all Iowa paying a good price for it. Yes we use a lot of water. 80% is reoxyenated and reused multiply times. Using round numbers. Each tank you see is 1 million gallons and produces 150000 gallons of alcohol. 90000 gallons of corn oil. Tons of DDG and WDG. Alot of corn we use is damaged meaning not fit for human consuption. All we care is how much starch/sugar it has. We make 130 million gallons a year.

And that is 130 Million gallons of gasoline equivalent for which we don’t have to import oil.

http://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&s=MCRIMUS1&f=A

Oil imports per year are down over 878 Million Barrels in the last 10 years. That’s $90.5Billion worth every year we aren’t paying to people outside of our nation.

@Mediator-I believe that the increase in oil in the U.S. is more due to frac drilling in North Dakota and Texas than renewable fuel. The liberals will never admit it but it is true.

Great, show me the numbers.

@Mediator-AsI have told you before, I do not play that game. For every number I show you, you will come up with some to off set it. I refuse to do your work for you. that is a old democrat ploy when they do not have an answer.

I’m not playing any game, I’m asking for actual discussion using facts. It’s not my responsibility to prove out your claims, the burden of proof is on the positive claimant.

If I were to be playing games, I would have simply said you were wrong and that the internet proves it but leave it as just a naked assertion.

I’m disappointed that you don’t want to actually discuss, but I understand if you want to walk away from your statements without supporting them.

@Mediator-you are trying to take credit for all renewable fuels when the discussion was about corn and beans being used for fuel.

I’m not trying to take credit for anything. I posted some facts about renewable energy. I’ve posted links for people to learn more.

You neglected to mention that most Ethanol plants are now extracting corn oil from the process for use in bio-diesel.

Renewable fuels are crap. All they do is increase cost for the rest of us so the farmers can make more money. It doesn’t surprise me that she is involved in this. Possibly getting a kickback. Nothing she does surprises me. Her and her whole family make a living off the backs of the taxpayer.

Why don’t you go off into the woods and live by yourself LVS, if you’re such a stalwart anti-socialist? Why won’t you? Because you’re a fraud that’s why. You depend and relish socialization just as much as everyone else who has come to live in modern society. You wouldn’t last a week in a survival situation.

@Philly_ I don’t need any crap from a Phsyco like you who lives part of the time in a mud hut and the rest of the time in his mothers basement, has never held a job and pays no taxes. Keep you mouth off me.

Guys like LVS who relish this idea of themselves as the backbone of America are misguided blue collar fools. They have no idea how wealth is generated, they patronize socialized systems each and every day, relying on socialized EVERYTHING, but then try and poise themselves as anti-government, independent, pick-themselves-up-by-their-bootstraps kind of people. They are not. It struck me as a special kind of nausea reading LVS’s continued attacks against Obama. It’s sickening.

And they also have no integrity as to the definition of honest wealth, or true wealth compared to the cheap plastic contrived junk mass hypnotized phony wealth that is currently circulating. They also rely on subsidized robotic foods and importations from Chinese assembly lines, while living off of Social Security and their mild pensions. LVS is a fraud by every definition of the word.

Unfortunately the Treasury Dept printed money and circulated it-at least a trillion dollars. With preferential bias they assigned VALUATION to special interested industries. Resultant of this prejudicial allocation, the United States economy went kaput. A transition needs to occur-away from the United States Dollar (and its electronic form) into a new currency: one that assigns NEW VALUES and Priorities. The Old Dollar is corrupt and misleading. We need a new day.

Ultimately though, the world is controlled by hedonistic sexual impulses. Whatever’s sexy, en vogue, popular, hip, useful. Droves of masses “trip the light fantastic” hoping to fill the void in their lives (and their genitals). Cops patrol around like sharks surrounded by drops of blood: it’s a frenzy. I think they genuinely get hard while doing so. Give humans something “smart” to fidget with, and you have direct route into their simple, clay brains, and wallets.

@Philly-Off your meds again I see. What’s the matter, did your mud hut fall in?

@Philly-No one but a FOOL believes anything the great Liar in the White House says. So, what kind of fool are you??

Any chance you can support your claim, LVS? I know I have a bias towards renewables but I’d like to know why you think they cost you more.

@Mediator-are you trying to tell me that the price of corn being so high due to gasohol has nothing to do with the increase in food prices. Or are you telling me that using up thousands of gallons of good water isn’t depleting our water supply? Are you telling me that the energy used to produce the crap that destroys most engines isn’t raising the cost of energy for the rest of us? Are you telling me that the rising price of reYou might try to tell me that but you will never get me to believe…

@mediator cont.-Are you telling me that subsidizing renewable fuels has nothing to do with the increase in taxes?? Are you telling me that renewable fuels has nothing to do with the increase in the cost of regular unleaded gasoline?? I could go on about how it is helping to deteriorate our infastructure and how when you figure in the carbon needed to produce it it really doesn’t do a thing to reduce pollution but you wouldn’t believe it.

@Mediator-Of course you are biased and have a vested interest if renewable’s. You are making a fortune off the backs of the rest of us.

As you can see, I told you nothing, instead I asked you for your support and I did so respectfully.

The claim was that they increase the cost to the rest of us. I was hopeful you had some facts.

I disagree. I’ve had several nice conversations with LVS. I prefer to put aside the posturing when possible and just listen to what people really have to say. It’s not always possible to put aside the things that clutter our ability to communicate, but to not even try to understand the position of another is to have given up hope. I guess I’m just a foolish optimist sometimes, but I try to find the common ground rather than the points where we will never agree.

@Mediator-we are not going there again are we? The facts are available on the internet if you look for them and keep a open mind. I will say this, although I am not in favor of gasohol I do believe they are starting to get the cost of wind down somewhat. If the utility’s don’t rip us off there may be a future there. Also, solar has potential if they can make it work better here in the north country. Anonymous is a dick and a troll who I have zero respect for.

That sounds more like the definition of an appeaser than a mediator.

“An appeaser is one who feeds the crocodile hoping it will eat him last.”

LVS sees that as a weakness and it makes him feel good in his tiny mind.

LVS, it’s not my claim, it’s yours. If it’s all over the internet you should be able to back up your claim with hard facts.

So, for example, if you think ethanol made the price of gasoline higher, I would hope you’d have some numbers which demonstrate that fact in a way that anyone would objectively agree. However, if it’s just opinion, then please state that much.

Pick one of your claims and sell me on it.
