investigateOMAHA – A cameraman with the popular TV show COPS was shot dead in Omaha, Nebraska Tuesday night while following police during a gun battle.

“Last night and today is an emotionally tough time for the COPS production crew family and the Omaha Police Department,” said Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer. “While documenting the Omaha Police Department response to the robbery, 38-year-old COPS crew member Mr. Bryce Dion was killed by gunfire in the incident.”

It has been reported that Dion, an audio technician, was struck by an officer’s bullet as police opened fire on a robbery suspect.

“On behalf of all of the men and women of the Omaha Police Department, I want to offer my sincere condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Mr. Bryce Dion. We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy and our main concern is helping his family in any way we can. Bryce Dion was a long term member of the “COPS” team and very talented and dedicated person. We mourn his passing. An investigation is ongoing and we are cooperating with local authorities.”

The robbery suspect, Cortez Washington, was also killed by the officers, after he fired two shots.  Washington was carrying a pellet gun that fires plastic bullets.
