Reward increased in manhunt for alleged killer of former Mason City man

ST. PAUL – A Minnesota man accused of murdering a former Mason City man is on the run and a reward for information leading to his capture has been increased.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office issued a revised wanted poster for Lyle Marvin “Ty” Hoffman. Hoffman is wanted in connection with the August 11, 2014 murder of 48-year-old Kelly Phillips – formerly of Mason City – in Arden Hills, Minnesota. The new wanted poster reflects a reward that has more than doubled to up to $25,000 offered by Crime Stoppers. The funds for the reward were raised by the community.

Phillips, Vice President and General Counsel for Boston Scientific, was shot three times and killed in a gas station parking lot. Investigators have identified Hoffman, Phillips’ former business partner, as the shooter. The handgun used in the shooting has not been recovered. Hoffman should be considered armed and dangerous.

Hoffman has traveled extensively within the Unites States, Canada, and Mexico; and mentioned visiting Belize. He is known to gamble and enjoys playing blackjack. He has visited Las Vegas and local casinos extensively. He is known to gravitate toward gay communities in the places he visits.
