NIACC volleyball team goes 1-1 at St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the St. Cloud Technical and Community College tournament.

NIACC (2-2 overall) topped Dakota County Technical College 3-0 and dropped a 3-2 decision to host St. Cloud Tech.

NIACC topped DCTC 25-22, 25-8, 25-13. St. Cloud topped NIACC 15-25, 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13.

“(Saturday) was a very good day,” NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. “Our team showed considerable growth, determination and selflessness.

“The match against SCTC was a great battle until the end and I’m proud of how our team worked together as one.”

Sophomores Caitlyn Hanig and Brianna Haugen led the Lady Trojans with 18 kills each.

Sophomore Heather Danburg led NIACC with 18 digs and sophomore Carly Ouverson, who had seven kills, had 17 digs. Hanig also had 16 digs and seven blocks.

Also for NIACC, freshman Zoe Schneider had seven ace serves and 15 digs, Haugen had four blocks, freshman Karlie Niedert had four blocks and four kills, sophomore Riley Quintus had 14 kills and three blocks, freshman Kendall Moorehead had nine digs, five ace serves and seven kills, and freshman Amanda Jacobs had 11 digs.

NIACC returns to action Friday at the Northeast Community College tournament in Norfolk, Neb. The Lady Trojans play Northeast at 3 p.m. and Central Community College (Neb.) at 5 p.m.
