MASON CITY – A Rockford man arrested numerous times for drug offenses in Mason City and fresh out of jail, is now back in the slammer, caught again prowling the city streets.
Cerro Gordo deputies stopped a car driven by Lewy Lee Curtis, age 44, Wednesday just after 4 PM near Carolina Avenue and 8th Street SE. Curtiss failed to yield to an emergency vehicle, prompting the traffic stop. The deputy – one of up to 5 at the scene – soon discovered that Lewis was not a licensed driver and was is possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and taken to jail where he is being held on bond, awaiting a court date.
Lewis was just released from jail on August 8 after pleading guilty to drug charges stemming from an incident last December. Lewis was awaiting sentencing in that case, where he was charged with two counts of drug possession. On December 6, 2013, police arrested Curtiss as he was sitting in a parked car at a vacant rental property at the 000 block of North Monroe Avenue. It was 2 AM in the morning, and Lewis was discovered to be in possession of methamphetamine and a schedule IV controlled substance as well as drug paraphernalia. He’ll be sentenced September 29 on those charges.
In June, Lewis was caught near 14th Street SE and Georgia Avenue, again with methamphetamine with intent to deliver and was arrested. He had also failed to appear in court on other drug charges and was wanted by police at that time. He has accepted an unspecified plea deal in that case, also on August 11, the day he was set free.
